Apps of Interest: TweetDeckPosted: June 15, 2010 | |
Use: Twitter Desktop Client
Platform: Windows, Mac OS X, Linux via Adobe AIR
From the Wikipedia Entry for Tweetdeck…
TweetDeck is an Adobe AIR desktop application for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Buzz, Foursquare, and MySpace.
It was originally only usable for Twitter but the more recent versions added support for Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Buzz, Foursquare and MySpace updates. However I still use it for Twitter exclusively but the support for the additional services are nice to have. I haven’t had it crash on me and the updates come in on time.
It features update notifications via sound and/or windows that appear at the lower right hand corner of the screen. In addition to all the features I previously touched on, there’s one very useful feature if you want to avoid spoilers for movies, tv shows, sporting events, and that would be filtering. Filter by text (keywords), name, time, and by source.
You’ll need to Install Adobe AIR prior to installing TweetDeck itself. As far as memory usage goes, it ranged from 110 to 130 MBs. It’s a small hard drive installation at about 3 MBs. I can see why this piece of software is being used by a lot of the Twitter users I follow.
